President's Message
Your Checklist is Waiting
By Martin Goni, CPA
As CPAs, whether we are tax accountants, litigation specialists or auditors, many of us are used to our daily work lives (and most often our personal lives, too) revolving around some sort of checklist. Therefore, I thought it would be nice to change my message this month and arrange it in a format that is no stranger to any of us.
Bakersfield Chapter Golf Tournament
Monday, Sept. 29; Stockdale Country Club
Have you reserved this date on your calendar? Formed a four-person team to be ready for the shotgun start at noon? Sent in your early-bird registration form with the $150/team registration fee to program director Kay Coffin so she receives it by Sept. 25? Made note that the registration fee increases to $175/team after Sept. 25? Prepared yourself to enjoy a fun day that includes 18 holes of golf and a cart, lunch, a gift pack, prizes and awards, and dinner? Spread the word among all of your friends, colleagues and associates? Thought of an organization that would like to be a sponsor for the event and submitted that information to Kay? Kept in mind that net proceeds benefit the Bakersfield Chapter Scholarship Fund for Bakersfield College and CSU Bakersfield students? Register online.
Bakersfield Chapter Student Night
Wednesday, Oct. 1; Four Points Sheraton Hotel;
Have you made plans to attend this event and represent our profession to the numerous accounting student attendees from Bakersfield College and CSU Bakersfield? Made note that CalCPA Chair Greg Burke will be our keynote speaker? Thought about contacting Kay and letting her know that you would like to host some students at your firm or business earlier that afternoon so they can experience a taste of what it is like to be an accountant? Thought about contacting Kay to become a sponsor for the event? Prepared yourself to congratulate this year’s Les Watts Memorial Scholarship recipients, who will be introduced that evening? Register online.
Local Member Featured in California CPA Article
Have you noticed that chapter member Marie Ebersbacher appeared on the cover of California CPA’s September 2008 issue? Read her article “Behind Closed Doors: The New Certified in Financial Forensics Credential”? Perused the remaining articles that keep you up to date on issues affecting us as professionals?
There you go! I hope this checklist wasn’t as hard to fill out as some of the other ones you’ve had to complete lately. I sincerely hope to see all of you at our upcoming events. Be sure to check the remainder of this Bulletin for a full report on all of the above. As always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please contact me, Kay Coffin or any of our board members. Thank you.
