Starting a Great Year

By Brian Rush, CPA

9_pres_sm_0.jpgI sincerely hope 2010 is a prosperous and rewarding year for all of you!

This looks to be another great year for the chapter. We begin with the Economic Forecast Breakfast Tuesday, Jan. 19, co-sponsored with the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. I hope you can attend and perhaps bring a client with you because this is a very interesting and informative event. Register online.

We are planning another mixer for late April and would like to have it someplace different. We have had mixers in Newport Beach twice and Fullerton once, so maybe its time to have one in South County. Let me know if you have a favorite watering hole with good food.

We are beginning to identify nominees for next year’s chapter board and are looking for CalCPA members who have an interest in chapter leadership. The time commitment should not prevent anyone from considering involvement and I can assure you it is a very rewarding experience. If you are interested in becoming a board member, our directors are happy to chat with you about the activities and time commitment. Drop me an e-mail so I can match you with someone who can answer your questions.

Another project for the coming year is the reinstitution of several interest groups that have been inactive for the past several years, including a discussion group that will provide a convenient meeting opportunity for those of you in North County. Each meeting will have a speaker who will address a timely topic and continuing education credits will be available.

We are also looking at re-establishing the Taxation Interest Group, which will bring a very important topic back to chapter members who practice in this area.

Lastly, we are seeking someone to chair the Sole Proprietor/Small Firm Interest Group, which will address practice management issues for small firms. Again, if any members are interested in leading or actively participating in any of these activities, please drop me an e-mail and I will be happy to discuss the opportunities.

As we get ready for another busy season and the stress that inevitably comes with it, let’s remember that we have other obligations to ourselves, our families and our community that are important and should not be ignored. Take some time in January to figure out a way to make time to do some of the non-work related activities that you enjoy. You will be glad you did.

My best to all of you!
