Ken Fagan passed away July 9 after a four-year battle with cancer. He provided tax and accounting services in the Sacramento area for more than 40 years, and also taught accounting at Sacramento State for many years.
Harry Straine, a chapter life member and a member of CalCPA since 1953.
Mavis Heyward, a CalCPA member since 1985.

We are looking to re-launch our Redding and Chico discussion groups—and are in need of members to lead and coordinate groups. The time commitment is approximately two to three hours a month, including the meeting, during a month that there is a meeting.

Our August meeting will address the personal aspects of being a seller or merger candidate in transitioning a firm into others’ hands. We will interview a CPA/sole practitioner who recently merged his practice into a large regional firm. We’ll also discuss issues that arose during the process and helpful tips.

Roberts, an attorney with Morrison & Foerster, LLP, discusses how a change in residency can be used as an effective estate-planning tool, including a discussion of California residency connections that are often overlooked or marginalized by taxpayers attempting to change their state of domicile and residence. She will also discuss the latest developments pertaining to California’s taxation of trusts and recent efforts to amend California’s statutory provisions for taxing trusts.
