I would like to take a moment to review some noteworthy highlights from 2009-10 that stand out in my mind as an indication of our progress as a chapter.
By far, the most exciting aspect of this past year has been the involvement of our past presidents in chapter events and activities. We held a past presidents breakfast at the Grant Grill in downtown that was well attended and a lot of fun! I hope this event signals the beginning of a strong collaboration between our chapter’s foundational members and the future leaders of our profession.

Chapter News
Presented by the CalCPA San Diego Chapter and the Colegio de Contadores Publicos de Baja California, A.C., the 16th Annual US-Mexico CPA Conference features top speakers discussing banking, accounting and tax updates of interest to those involved international services.
Among the speakers is Barry Melancon, AICPA president and CEO, who will speak on current professional developments.
Simultaneous interpretation will be provided during the technical presentations.

CalCPA is committed to advancing women within the CPA profession. Now in its third year, the Women’s Leadership Forum brings together women in public accounting, industry, financial professionals and others for a day of leadership development and professional growth. Attendees will hear experts discuss the latest issues and challenges facing leaders today, and leave with knowledge and tips that may transform their lives and careers.
The event also will recognize our Women to Watch Award winners. Categories include Established Leaders (one who has advanced to a higher level or leadership position within the organization) and Emerging Leaders (professional who has made significant contributions to the profession and to her community, but who has not yet reached the highest levels of advancement).

CalCPA is taking applications for its Doctoral Scholarship Program for individuals pursuing a Ph.D. in accounting. The scholarship is being made available to help address the current and projected significant shortfall in accounting department faculty at California colleges and universities. Therefore one requirement of the scholarship recipient will be to join the faculty of a four-year college or university located in California for at least three years.
The scholarship program will be administered by CalCPA’s Accounting Education Committee and funded by the CalCPA Education Foundation. Three doctoral candidates will be selected per year to receive a maximum of $10,000 per year with a possible renewal of three years total.
Applications are due to CalCPA by April 15. Accounting students, accounting education and the accounting profession will benefit from this opportunity.
