Volunteers Needed
Tax-Aid, a nonprofit organization that offers free tax return preparation for low-income families in the Bay Area, is in need of volunteers to assist people in preparing and filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Volunteers do not need any experience and will receive two hours of training provided by staff from the San Francisco College Access Center and AACE Talent Search. Volunteers are asked to commit four hours each on at least two of the following Saturdays: Jan. 30, Feb. 6, 20 and 27.
“Much of the information needed to complete the FAFSA comes straight off the completed tax return,” says Tax-Aid President Kenneth Lee, CPA. “But it’s still very complicated, and families have to get the application in by March 2 to be eligible for the greatest range of state and federal aid.”
If you are interested in volunteering, contact Kristy Koberna with your firm name, address and phone. Members interested in volunteering for Tax-Aid’s tax preparation program can contact Minnie Sage.
Tax deductible donations can also be made to Tax-Aid; 55 Second St.; Suite 1400; San Francisco, CA 94105.
