I have received the book from Steve and it contains much of the history of our chapters first 25 years. I have not finished going through it but I have found references to Emmet Gottenberg who was one of our chapter’s original board members and chaired the "Cooperation with Credit Grantors and Professional Groups" committee in 1951. J.E. Bean Jr. chaired the By-Laws committee in 1954.

This book has a lot of interesting information on the early years of our chapter, including the first two years of 1949 and 1950 when we formed our own society, the “San Jose Society of Certified Public Accountants” which was not affiliated with the California Society of Certified Public Accountants at the time.

Thank you for the heads up Bob.

I can tell there is going to a lot more work done to recapture not only the history of the gavel but also the history of our chapter.

Les Nye, one of the original officers of the Chapter, gave me a 50-year history that he and others compiled before his death. I had it for many years, and when I moved from California to Utah I gave it to Steve Grimaud. Check with Steve to see if he has it and if it sheds any light on this for you.

After receiving my undergraduate degree from San Jose State in 1969, I went to work for the firm of Gottenberg, MacDowell, and Krouskup CPA's in San Jose while attending graduate school at San Jose State. Shortly thereafter the name was changed to MacDowell, Krouskup, Graham and Co. In 1972 the firm was acquired by Haskins & Sells.
